Brooklyn Arts Center The Annex Wedding Photographer

Working at the Brooklyn Arts Center in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina is always going to be a great day. I love the venue and the area itself, and The Annex is a smaller sized version of their main church. It’s a gorgeous, historic building and I love the brick and wood accents everywhere.

Melissa and Charity chose The Annex to host their wedding day! These two were both already friends of mine in totally separate ways – another reason I love the smallness of Wilmington. Melissa and I were neighbors at my very first apartment complex in Wilmington, almost 9 years ago now! And Charity was my yoga instructor, and a huge help with advice and even showing my house to her clients when I was buying/selling a home last year. I already had a realtor and she still put in time and energy to help me out in the process. (Shoutout to their real estate business – Harpo Properties! They are the best!) These two are just completely incredible souls. And even better together. I loved listening to the speeches their friends made about them, it truly showed how loved these two are. It takes a lot for me to cry at a wedding, and I was silently crying behind my camera for A LOT of these moments.

Melissa’s daughters surprised her with a fun first dance with the two of them, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. A lot about this wedding day was dedicated to her late father, and this was the sweetest surprise to add to it. It was an extra fun day for me, not just to get to be there to celebrate my friends, but to also celebrate with a bunch of our mutual friends from Recess (the cycling studio I go to!) and Port City Power Yoga (where I go, and where Charity was my instructor!). Just a fun, happy, loving, low-key day. I wish every day was like this one. Congrats to Charity and Melissa – I can’t wait to watch you two thrive together.
